I was born and raised a Michigan fan, but when it came time to go to college I went to Michigan State instead. So I do understand the HUGE rivalry between the two (especially when I was a kid).

With that being said, can someone please explain to me why the Michigan/Ohio State rivalry such a big deal still? I mean Michigan hasn’t won since 2003. Overall Ohio State has dominated for the past couple of years.

Basically, why is it a still living rivalry?

Yes, I know I love Football. But if you live in Ohio, Michigan, or anywhere the the good ole’ U.S. of A, The Ohio State-Michigan game at the end of the season is the greatest rivalry in all of sports.  The Big Ten Conference (our league) almost screwed it up, if you didn’t hear the rumors throughout August, but we saved it from being moved!  For those who live in Ohio and Michigan, this game is like our own holiday, especially for Ohio since we have our own “Michigan week” anticipating the game.  For example, in school growing up we would have OSU Michigan themed events the whole week until the weekend, and since I can remember there hasn’t been one year where my family and friends hasn’t sat around Saturday at Noon watching together.  Just really thankful “The Game” will stay where it belongs.

First Buckeyes game is tomorrow night! You know I’m stoked :p

It’s still a rivalry because college football doesn’t only live in the present.  I mean, Michigan holds the rivalry record 57-43-6.  So OSU would need to win for the next 14 years just to tie with the Wolverines.  

Just because OSU has won 6 straight means nothing.  Every year is a new start. That is why we love college football.  It’s the place where athletes have nothing and are playing for everything.  And they really lay it all on the line during rivalry games.  

That would be like saying Tennessee and Kentucky don’t have a rivalry anymore.  Yes Tennessee has won 25 years in a row… That means nothing.  Kentucky brings it every year. It would still bring tears to my eyes if we didn’t bring home the Beer Barrel this year.
